Sunday Paper Round-Up

A very quick check of the Sunday papers doesn’t reveal too much in the way of startling news but here it is anyway…

The only ‘new’ story is in The Sun who have City looking at a loan deal for Manchester United’s young midfielder, Nick Powell.

Powell is only 19 and made his big move to United last summer after a barn storming star to his career at Crewe. However, Powell only made two appearances for his new club although he did score one goal in a four nil thrashing of Wigan.

If I’m honest, I don’t really see that Powell is any better than what we already have and it seems Wigan are also interested in a loan, which would probably be better for him.

Meanwhile the Toivonen saga rumbles on and John Ruddy is described as being in ‘advanced talks’ with Chelsea to become a bench warmer – I still can’t see this happening unless Chelsea offer at least £10m and offer JR something ridiculous like over £100k a week because, let’s face it, money talks.

With this story in mind though, David McNally tweeted on Friday that the club were not in any negotiations over the sale of any of their players (Lambert all over again?)

Carlo Nash was touted as a new third place ‘keeper after being released by Stoke. This was first mooted here on Vital Norwich and looks on paper a sensible type of move to provide cover (for whoever our goal keeping team turns out to be).

Another story doing the rounds over the last day or two, which was again reported here first, was the supposed bid for Lokomotiv Moscow’s Senegalese striker, Dame N’Doye.

Lokomotiv reportedly turned down a £6m bid from City for their man with a suggestion that City will bid again – how much truth there is in this is anyone’s guess.

Yesterday brought news of an enquiry for Ajax’s highly rated defender, Toby Alderweireld and this is reported in several places today, I would be very pleased if we could beat Spurs and Liverpool to this one. This story originated in Holland and over in Sweden, the press there had us agreeing a fee with Blackburn for Martin Olssen, again, another good addition I would think.

And finally it’s the usual Gary Hooper story. With Hull now turning their attentions to Charlie Austin, The Express have us ‘fighting’ with QPR for the Celtic striker’s signature for a ‘knock down’ £4m – The Toivenon saga is second only to this one.

So there we have it, City completed some great business with the signing of Nathan Redmond this week, what are our thoughts on this little lot?
