Watching Away

THE FUTURE’S BLEAK looks ahead at the last friendlies of the summer against Real Zaragoza and Parma – they both used to be huge you know.

While the past few weeks have all been little more than showing our faces at places we didn`t really want to be, tonight is much much more.

Tonight sees the visit of a club who signed Aimar once. And paired him with Milito. And D`Allesandro. No Freddy Eastwood`s here. Yes, their costly little adventure didn`t come off, unless you want to be famed for being said failure. But still, it`s a different test for whatever side is put out.

Then we have Saturday. Another expensive-experiment-turned-sour side in the shape of Parma pop over. In their pomp they had Buffon then Frey, Adriano, Cannavarro, Thuram and the likes. Their fall from grace was the stall-setting that Zaragoza followed so impressively to the letter.

On our side, it will be the first meaningful run-out with a possible nod to who will be on the team-sheet come August 13th. But it will be difficult to properly gauge as I believe the final whistle tonight will only be half-time in the course of things.

Whoever starts tonight may well miss out on a starting slot Saturday, and vice-versa. We probably won`t learn too much of what is going on inside Sir Paul`s head, but at least we`re back at Carra. And it will feel like the season is bearing down on us and all the excitement that comes with that.

But I`m not going to lie, I`m more interested in our opposition than I am what the boys in yellow do over the next few days.
