When we were loved

Remember last year, when everybody loved us? THE FUTURE’S BLEAK does, but can’t quite work out what has changed.

Remember last year? Remember when we were loved? Now, despite playing the same way as we have for the past two years, we`re slated and berated by all and sundry.

We`re not playing any different to how we have over the past few seasons; in fact the same mistakes are costing the same price. We don`t deal with the long ball down the middle well and we don`t close people down soon enough. We know that. We knew that last year. And the year before. And so on.

Yet now they`re being highlighted without fail by each and every former average footballer who has somehow worked his way into the media all the while staring into the face of incoherence. Say anything enlightening, they won`t. Last season we were flavour of every week and they happily ignored the deficiencies we so clearly had at times because we were still getting results.

Now we`re playing well and not getting the same results we were (we`re not getting bad results, mind), they`re brought up time and time again claiming we`re simply not good enough.

Right.

The standard of much of the Premier League is comparable to a large proportion of the Championship. We`re only really playing thirteen teams up here so any results against the top four especially, are bonuses.

When the likes of Rooney rip us to shreds we won`t be particularly worried. Arsenal are still technically- just about- deemed as top four and he ripped them apart. So if he does the same to us we can all sigh and mumble “At least we haven`t got to go back there.”

It`s not defeatist, it certainly isn`t when you realise we just need to keep the likes of Danny Graham and Frazier Campbell quiet. We can do that. No matter what some will tell you.
