Man United And Palace Both Tracking Norwich Defender

|

Max Aarons is being linked with both Crystal Palace and Manchester United by Sky Sports.

This all relates to Manchester United’s now public chase of Palace’s England U21 right back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and what happens if they can or can’t persuade Palace to part with him this summer.

According to Sky Sports, the Eagles want around £60m for Wan-Bissaka with a £40m bid from United reportedly having been rejected over the last couple of days.

The link to our own Max Aarons comes in the same report from Sky Sports with the suggestion being that if Palace won’t sell Wan-Bissaka then United will turn to Aarons as a back-up plan.

However, if they do sell Wan-Bissaka then Sky suggest that Palace may turn to Max Aarons as a replacement for him.

Got all that?!

This is what is commonly referred to as “the domino effect.” One transfer happens and then another quickly follows to replace the first player to be sold and so on.

I remember watching Wan-Bissaka in the England v Holland U21 international at Carrow Road last September and I was mightily impressed by him that night. He’s quick, strong and got a good engine and I figured he looked like he had a big future ahead of him.

The lad has only got one (very good) season under his belt in the Premier League but just look at the value that is being placed on him only a year later.

£60m?!

Wow. I think that shows that if the likes of Aarons, Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis have a good season, then we will have some very valuable players on our hands.

So, what’s the likelihood of all this happening?

It seems clear that United want Wan-Bissaka. There’s too much “credible” speculation to suggest otherwise and it’s now up to Palace as to how much they want for him or even if they want to sell. The lad is proven in the Premier League and that’s the difference between him and Max Aarons – in a year’s time, Aarons’ stock could be as high as Wan Bissaka’s is now.

Max Aarons is not currently worth £40m+ and I can’t see either United or Palace being willing to pay much more than £15m for a lad who is basically “a proven Championship player.”

We all know that Max is a star though and a brilliant prospect and that if he stays at Norwich this summer, he will play every game as first choice right back. I feel reasonably confident that the Canaries could withstand a bid for any of our young prospects as all have long contracts and a year proven in the top flight is going to near enough triple their current valuations.

If no-one was talking about Norwich City’s players it’d be because they aren’t any good. Transfer speculation always surrounds a club’s best players.

Fingers crossed, eh?!
