Norwich Striker Completes Championship Move

|

Norwich City have confirmed the loan of Nelson Oliveira to Reading for the rest of the season.

Reading manager José Gomes told his club’s official website: “Nélson is a striker who certainly possesses that vital killer instinct. He is strong, powerful and technically good with the ball at his feet. And he thrives on scoring goals.

“So we are delighted he has chosen to join us for the final 18 games of our season.”

Nelson is widely thought to be one of the highest earners still at the club, so moving him off the wage bill, even temporarily is a good thing.

He has been a virtual outcast at Norwich this season. He hasn’t made a match day squad and has only featured in a few U23 Development games.

That all stems back to what was a very public fallout with the Canaries then new Head Coach, Daniel Farke on the opening day of the 2017/18 season away at Fulham.

His angry celebration, after scoring a last minute equaliser, was enough for Farke to drop him, with the player quickly apologising to his teammates and the fans in a public apology.

His form dipped and he scored only 8 times in that season, trying to score from more and more outlandish positions and distances.

He is clearly a talented player with a high level of skill and technical ability. His attitude let him down badly though.

He can’t play against Norwich and his goals could harm opponents from top six teams that Reading will face between now and the end of the season.

If he scores the winner against Leeds, Sheffield United or West Brom then we’ll all be chuffed to bits.

Nelson’s contract at Carrow Road expires in the summer of 2020, so let’s hope he recovers some form and can be sold in the summer for a few quid.
