Schalke Keeper Having Norwich Medical?

|

Schalke goal keeper, Ralf Fahrmann is having a medical at Norwich today, Sky Sports understands.

The 30-year-old Schalke Club Captain has been linked with City over the last week or so, with speculation that a loan move was imminent ramping up several notches yesterday.

Something you can read about here.

Fahrmann made 25 appearances for Schalke last season but lost his place in the side due to niggling injuries and the form of young Alexander Nubel. In previous seasons though, Fahrmann has been an excellent and reliable servant to Schalke, amassing around 200 Bundesliga appearances in the process.

Assuming this is correct, it raises some interesting questions over the future of Tim Krul as City’s number one.

According to Bundesliga commentator, Dan O’Hagen, Fahrmann is a “definite upgrade on Krul” and it’s unlikely that he will be coming to just warm the bench because, let’s be honest, he could do that in Germany.

It’s going to be fascinating to see the competition for the number one spot unfold. I had originally thought that Krul would be the guaranteed first choice with the vastly experienced Michael McGovern as back-up but as Dan also points out, this shows that a level of ruthlessness to succeed is there under the surface at Norwich and it’s been a while since we’ve seen anything like that, isn’t it?!
