We can do this

SAVVY_MONKEY on the Championship run-in, and the small matter of an East Anglian derby on Thursday night.

‘Massive’ seems to be the word most have used to sum up the win over a rapidly fading but talented Forest side on Friday night, and rightly so.

If we had lost that game it would have been very difficult to make up the required ground on either Reading or Cardiff. The stakes are that high at this stage on the season – every game is indeed a cup final at the business-end of the season.

I’ve been doing so for a few weeks, but I think it’s now possible to start projecting the other teams’ results with a little bit of confidence. So, I’ve dusted the spreadsheet down and stuck my neck out with my view on where this bundle of yellow and green wonder will end up come 7th May at 3pm.

Swansea City – will finish on 79 points
Portsmouth (a) 3pts
Ipswich (h) 3 pts
Millwall (a) 0 pts
Sheff Utd (h) 3 pts

Reading – will finish on 79 points
Leeds (a) 0 pts
Sheff Utd (h) 3pts
Coventry (a) 1pt
Derby (h) 3 pts

Cardiff City – will finish on 83 points
QPR (h) 1pt
Preston (a) 3pts
Middlesbrough (h) 1pt
Burnley (a) 3pts

Norwich City – should finish on 84 points
Ipswich (a) 1pt
Derby (h) 3pts
Portsmouth (a) 3pts
Coventry (h) 3pts

So there we have it – buoyed by Cardiff’s slip up at ‘Boro earlier in the day on 2nd May, Paul Lambert’s Green Army re-take second spot in front of the Sky cameras and never look back. I’m not going to mention Reading, other than to say that to win 8 in a row is magnificent; to win 12 in a row is impossible.

I’m not one for blowing my own trumpet, but I did this before the weekend and correctly foresaw a clean sweep of wins for all except sickly travellers Swansea.

Clearly, football matches aren’t won on spreadsheets. However, what this shows is that if we keep performing as we have been doing that there will be opportunities to regain the advantage. The last team Cardiff want to be up against next is QPR, and even Preston and Burnley away are tough places for them to go – just ask Swansea, and they were pretty good weren’t they?

I’d rather be playing a Derby, Portsmouth or Coventry with nothing to play for. The small matter of a trip down the A140 is up next, where in all honesty I would take a draw. We’ve shown enough this season to know that there is nothing to fear when both Holt and Hoolahan are fit and firing, but I can’t see ‘the old blue and white’ doing us any favours.

We can do this. OTBC
