THE FUTURE’S BLEAK reckons the Carling Cup hammering by MK Dons is all part of Paul Lambert’s plan. Maybe he has a point.
Old Lambo`s a nice chap, isn`t he? And not only for him pandering to my wish of falling out the cup at the first attempt. His unhappy press outings were all part of the act, last night was intended.
For starters, he allowed the big hole in the centre of the defence to come in and claim a well-deserved man of the match award. Not bad considering it`s not been seen since the dark, dark days of Roeder. He was big, commanding and everything went through him. Hopefully, it was his one and only appearance of the season.
Sir Paul allowed the MK Dons fans a nice day out, they took it with both hands and enjoyed themselves singing throughout to the scores of kids in Carra. Although, the MK fans were doing their bit to drag the average age of the attendance down somewhat an`all.
Talking of MK, it was nice to see Luke Chadwick get the chance to experience winning at Carra; they were rarer than rare when he was colliding with advertising boards here.
And they`re keeper looked to have enjoyed himself, barely troubled but for popping into the crowd to collect one of Korey`s numerous wayward long-rangers and not-so-long-rangers. A nice evening off at the coast for him, it was.
Heck, Lambert even gave Lappin the chance to get away from his Spanish villa for the night in favour of a rare sight of a football. You know it`s not your night when Lappin is turned to.
It wasn`t all plain sailing though; Ayala looked in agony after putting his foot in. Sparse just about describes our central defensive options right about now. But, as you may have read last week, I`m hoping to tumble from the FA Cup in the third round too, just maybe not 0-4, eh?
(On a serious note, the only player who came out with any semblance of credit was Jacko, not sure he could have done much more than he did. And, Tierney really has made us realise how old Drury seems at the minute…)
